Vacation Packing Blues

Summer is great because amidst working odd jobs and telling yourself you are going to hit the gym, it is likely that at some point you are going to grab your swimsuit, sunscreen (SPF 50000 if you have fair skin like me), and boom box and head on vacay.  Whether you are going on a relaxed trip to the beach or updating your passport to head beyond the border, packing (for fashionistas like us…) is always a challenge.

Just like in any situation that is hard to face, the first step to success is acceptance.  Before you even begin packing, you need to accept that you will not be able to bring every pair of shoes you own, and for this, I truly am very sorry.  And while you have four white dresses that would all look stunning on the beach, you need to have that difficult conversation with yourself in which you grapple with which white dress is the best.  Because you don’t need all of them- once again, I am sorry for your loss and saddened that I have to relay this news.

Now remember the pact you made with your friends?  To not have to check baggage because who even wants to deal with baggage claim in rural eastern Europe?  I know you want to retract your signature and run for the hills, your two largest suitcases in tow, but you promised.  And you’re going to have to make it work.  Packing a week’s worth of your life into a carry-on is no small feat, but as soon as you commit to the challenge, you can do it!  And I am here to help you pack for your upcoming vacation.

So I did it.  With nine pieces, one pair of shoes, one bag, and two necklaces, I have you outfitted for a whole week… Behold!

In your vacation startup pack I include: 5 tops, two pairs of shorts, a romper, and a dress.  Not pictured are the perfect pair of wedges I suggest bringing, two neutral necklaces that will work with every outfit, and a perfect-for-travelling tote bag.  Not too shabby, huh?
